For those interested in ancient history, you'll love this!
In researching all things Celtic (because I'm including more folklore and Celtic history in Shadow House), I came across this ancient language, called Ogham, which is an Early Medieval alphabet used in the early Irish language. I also learned that the druids of Celtic society (the priests), although literate, relied mainly on oral traditions and history, being careful not to write things down for fear that their sacred knowledge would be stolen or misused.
Here is a bed people would have slept in during the Iron Age (approx 750 BC-43 AD, although sources differ greatly on the time period), during which Iron was discovered by the Celts and used for everything from jewelry to weapons.
The Celts lived in roundhouses:
Large families would live in these houses together and would light a fire in the middle for warmth and cooking.
It's so fascinating to see how people lived thousands of years ago!
